Cooperation Between Georgia and China in the Field of Theatre Education

On October 22, 2025, the Ambassador of Georgia, Paata Kalandadze, held a meeting with the Vice President of the China Central Academy of Drama , Xu Zhen. The meeting was also attended by Giorgi Shalutashvili, Rector of the Shota Rustaveli Theatre and Film Georgia State University, and Nika Sabashvili, a lecturer at the university and Director of the Georgian Union of Professional State Puppet Theatres.

The discussion focused on the participation of the Georgian university in the 2025 International Theatre Festival held under the auspices of the “World Theatre Education Alliance” (WTEA) held October 20-22, in Beijing, as well as on ways to further strengthen future cooperation.

At this year’s festival, the university has presented the performance “With Love’s  Light Wings”.

Founded in 2016, the World Theatre Education Alliance (WTEA) brings together world-renowned theatre schools and aims to promote the exchange of education and experience.

As one of the founding members of the Alliance, the Shota Rustaveli Theatre and Film Georgia State University is participating in the festival for the fourth time.

From October 24 to November 2, 2025, in the city of Guilin, China, the Georgian troupe will also take part in China’s well-known theatrical event, the “Guilin Festival.”
