Dear visitor
I am pleased to welcome you on behalf of the Embassy of Georgia to the People`s Republic of China and express our hope that the information placed on the web-site of the Embassy will enrich your knowledge on the politics, economics, culture, education and other aspects of the Georgian-Chinese cooperation.
China is among the first countries to recognize Georgia’s independence and to establish the bilateral diplomatic relationship.
We highly value the support of the Government of China towards the sovereignty, territorial integrity and the non-recognition policy of Georgia. On its part, Georgia is in line with the “One China” policy.
I am pleased to underline, that Partnership between our states is ever closer. It’s gratifying to observe the remarkable progress that we have made in recent years. Bilateral relationship exists on multiple levels, between businesses as well as people-to-people links. Enhanced engagement at all levels will pay dividends for the Georgia-China relationship long into the future.
We have a unique advantage as Georgia is the only country in the region, which has a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with China. It is a great opportunity and a good chance for us to boost exports to China. After FTA took effect on 1st January, 2018, China becomes the third largest wine export market to Georgia. China is among top trading partners and one of the main sources for foreign direct investments in the Georgian economy. The cooperation and development between China and Georgia is based on the mutual trust and respective advantages, which has engaged the bilateral relations into a new stage of rapid development.
Georgia welcomes implementation of President Xi Jinping’s “Belt and Road” initiative that will bolster economic cooperation between East and West. With its geostrategic location, Georgia is looking for greater participation in this global project that will bring economic growth and largely contribute to sustainable security.
Georgia has held two Tbilisi Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation in 2015 and 2017, which have brought a widespread impact to the promotion of the Belt and Road Initiative in Eurasian region. In addition, Georgia is a founding member of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), as well as the first country to approve the Charter of AIIB.
It is important to further strengthen exchanges and cooperation between research institutions and think tanks of the two countries.
Culture and education are also traditionally important areas of our mutual cooperation.
Despite the concrete achievements, Georgia-China`s further cooperation has a huge potential in various fields. The Embassy of Georgia to China will use all its efforts for promoting bilateral relationship in a qualitatively higher level.
I hope that the Embassy`s web-site will be informative and useful to the visitors.
Archil Kalandia
Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary
of Georgia to the People`s Republic of China
